  • Develop an Entrepreneurial Mindset

    Think like an entrepreneur

It’s almost impossible to be an entrepreneur if you haven’t developed an entrepreneurial mindset. Yes, you have to be able to think like an entrepreneur if your entrepreneurship is to be a success. Sometimes though, it is easier said than done, because if you have been an employee in a structured corporate environment and want to break out of it to start your own business, some retraining of the mind may be necessary.

Following is a brief narrative that relates directly to the retraining of your mind with the desired result of completely reeducating yourself in entrepreneurial thinking and ultimate self-employment in a field of your choosing, if not of your dreams.

    The obstacles within

A very valuable lesson learned by many entrepreneurs is realizing that one of the biggest problems in becoming self-employed came in the form of obstacles created by themselves. In order to be a self-employed person it is necessary to start thinking like one. I was one of those entrepreneurs before I changed my way of thinking. I found myself reverting back to that nine-to-five mentality in the sense that If I wasn’t accomplishing a task every hour, then I must not really be working.

Sometimes a self-employed person has to make decisions about his/her business. Sometimes s/he is just thinking about a solution to a problem. Sometimes s/he just has to quiet his/her mind so new ideas can formulate. Just because you’re not pounding away at the keyboard or some other office gadget every minute doesn’t mean you’re not working.

    Learn to ignore distractions

I’ve also learned that it’s okay to NOT answer the phone every time it rings. That’s what voicemail is for, and the same goes for email. At my nine-to-five job I would leave the email program open all day and answer each one as it arrived.

It took me a while to realize it’s okay to only check email several times a day instead of constantly being interrupted. Periodically checking your email is so much more productive than having to stop your thought process every time “you have mail.” At my other job, I was able to let a phone call roll over into voice mail, but it took me a while to be able to shut down the email too.

You’re going to have days where you feel you didn’t accomplish much. Then again, you’ll have days where you’ll feel you can conquer the world and you’ll be amazed at how much you got done. Some days you may not finish many tasks, but you’ll make a decision on a problem that needed to be addressed. Or, you will have learned a valuable lesson about yourself.

    Think big picture

And, I had to learn to stop breaking down all my tasks into dollars and cents. I tended to worry about how much I was or was not earning every day. The truth is, some days you’re going to make more money than other days. If I spent my day on marketing issues, even though I didn’t earn any money from it that day, I would benefit from it some time in the future.

Rather than worry about what benefits I do or don’t have, I realized the benefit I have in my business is that I answer only to me. Everything I do will benefit me sooner or later. Instead of my income being dependent on somebody else’s budget, I can go as far as I dream.

And because I’m now doing what I truly love and not what someone else tells me to, I’m much happier and more content. I learned if you start thinking like an entrepreneur, then you’ll actually be one; And a reasonably successful one, thank you very much.

A primary business tool on hold

    Completing the transformation

The above narrative could have been written by any one of thousands of present-day entrepreneurs who had previously been employed in a nine-to-five position and was forced to reformulate his/her entire outlook during the conversion from employed to self-employed. Some instances were voluntary while others were forced due to economical circumstances, but in all instances the mindset had to be changed.

  • How Web Entrepreneurs Make Money

    Methods

There are three basic ways of earning money which include trading time for money, trading money for money and trading expertise and/or value for money.

Society and the formal education system promote the first method of earning money which involves trading time for money. In other words, you work for someone else for a specific amount of time and then they pay you. Working for someone else drains your energy and you don’t make much money.

The second way to earn money is utilized by a small portion of the population and involves trading money for money. In other words, you are earning money through investing. Investing can be risky because if you lack know-how and reserve funds then it’s probably not wise to invest money in the first place. Therefore, many people can’t even try this option because they only have enough money to pay their bills.

The third way to earn money is the best option. This is the entrepreneurial option which involves trading expertise/value for money. This is the strategy utilized by entrepreneurial experts. You have a flexible schedule, work less, and earn more once you invest enough time upfront to set up your entrepreneurship. You can make thousands of dollars a day with this option.

    Image and branding

In order to earn money through trading expertise/value for money you need to first figure out who you are as an entrepreneur and what you can give to others. What information do you have that could help others? You can find value from previous work experience or even from your hobbies. From this you can create your intellectual property.

What is Intellectual property? How big is the market for Intellectual property? Is there room for you in the Intellectual property market? These may be a few of the questions you may have when you are researching the information marketing business.

First of all, anyone can create intellectual property. You don’t need to be a philosopher, doctor or lawyer. Heck you don’t even need to be a college graduate. You just need to have an area or expertise, or access to an expert, and a drive to succeed.

Intellectual property combines eCommerce and book publishing. For example, you can write and sell an eBook on the Web via your own website or through an affiliate program that you set up. Recent research has found that approximately 6 out of every 10 American adults surf the Web on a daily basis seeking out entertainment and education, as well as to shop for products.

Plus a lot has changed from the early days of the Internet. One such change is the confidence with which people use the Web. They are more comfortable buying online today than in the past. The market accessed through the Web is global and encompasses millions of people, so you can be comfortable in knowing that the information marketing business has room for everyone!

    Entrepreneurial spirit

When you market on the Web, you market to your niche. Therefore, you don’t have to worry whether or not your neighbor will want to buy your product. The Web opens many niche markets for you.

If creating and selling intellectual property on the Internet is so simple, why isn’t everyone doing this? The simple answer is that formal educational systems and previous societal beliefs are at fault. In our youth, we are taught to finish school and then “find a good job” which translates to become an employee at a company. The entrepreneurial spirit is not promoted; in fact it is almost shunned.

Don’t let societal beliefs stop you from pursuing your goals. The intellectual property market is wide, diverse, and ready to fill your bank account, if you are ready to meet the challenge of entrepreneurship, work hard and pursue your goals diligently.

  • What Makes Entrepreneurs – Who They Are?

Over the years countless institutions and individuals have asked the million dollar question. What makes an entrepreneur an entrepreneur? What traits or characteristics are inherent to a successful entrepreneur and is one born with those traits? There’s great news! Successful entrepreneurs are born every day!

Some people believe an entrepreneur is born while others believe an entrepreneur can be taught. Some believe an entrepreneur is like an artist – either you have it or do you don’t. Some see entrepreneurs as leaders that are focused, disciplined, competitive, and charismatic, while others see them as huge risk takers. And all of these analogies are right to some degree.

It’s true all successful entrepreneurs share a few qualities and skills that allow them to be successful. These inherent qualities can be taught; but they often seem to be an inherent driving force that sends individuals down the path of being in business or formally training for a career in business.

Entrepreneurs see the world differently. They have the ability to see the world as a system. They have the ability to see something in its entirety and as an integrated unit, and they seem to possess the ability to see opportunity within the global picture. They are what is called a system thinker.

There are other characteristics they possess. Entrepreneurs possess an overpowering need to achieve and tend to be very competitive against themselves. They are continuously trying to outthink themselves and others and they are constantly looking for the edge. This is a process that occurs as naturally as breathing and is a driving force behind most entrepreneurs.

They have the determination and dedication to follow through with commitments and they always appear confident and in control. You’ll notice they also possess a positive aura. They are of the mindset “I can,” and “I will.” They are not afraid of failure because failure is not in their vocabulary nor is it an option.

They are objective but have the ability to weigh risks realistically within the big picture. They have an uncanny ability to anticipate developments which gives them the edge on many competitive situations. Entrepreneurs seem to feel right from their gut, call it instinct. They are a resourceful group that possess excellent problem-solving skills and are able to diligently work through obstacles as they occur.

Entrepreneurs are excellent communicators and recognize how important clear and concise communication is to their success. They also possess a sound working knowledge of the business they are involved in.

When it comes to successful entrepreneurs it’s a question of what came first, the chicken or the egg. Is it inherent qualities that entrepreneurs are born with, or is it that we choose to become entrepreneurs we therefore develop the skills and qualities of success? That’s a question we shall leave to the great debaters to resolve.

What is for certain is that successful entrepreneurs are born every day and that you too can be a successful entrepreneur by developing the skills needed for success.

  • Facing Your Fears As An Entrepreneur

    The inhibitions

Most entrepreneurs I have talked with have had to come face to face with their fears. I’ve had to as well. I want to share with you some of the techniques that were utilized to face and overcome them. The first step is not to be in denial. You have fears even if you don’t readily acknowledge them. They sometimes take the form of that little guy – or gal – in the back of your head that says you can’t do it.

Fear is such a huge factor in preventing people from becoming entrepreneurs. I’ve heard from the CEO of a real-estate based network marketing company that even though he has people packing into company seminars, that maybe 2-5% of them will actually go out and apply the knowledge by putting offers on real estate. He is convinced that the rest are paralyzed by fear. Following are some of the techniques I have used as I learned them from the entrepreneurs I’ve known and dealt with.

    Your goals and work plan

Think about what you do want in the form of goals and objectives, and when you find yourself spinning the wheels in your mind over and again about your worst case scenario, turn it around and focus on what you DO want. Visualize yourself getting what you do want. See the new house. See yourself talking to the interested person as they become a part of your business. You get what you focus on.

Change the inner voice in a manner that when you hear yourself telling you that you’re not good enough – you’re going to fail, just change the voice from yours to that of Mickey Mouse or Pee Wee Herman or something else that would hold little weight with you anyway! Who cares if Mickey Mouse thinks you’re not good enough? Is Mickey Mouse an entrepreneur?

    Discussion and research material

Share them with a trusted friend or associate. Hopefully you have been able to find some level of support from at least one other entrepreneur. Ideally, you have a significant other that supports you. If not, then you should have some kind of support network from your team, upline, or a top producer that you can talk to. Some people may tell you that it is silly you could even believe that you’re not good enough. For me, my wife has been a constant source of support. However, don’t go looking for support from all those people who doubted you and told you it was crazy to go out on your own. They will never understand the entrepreneur.

Have a personal development library. I draw tremendous support from my library. It is not just filled with how to resources, but also stories of others who conquered their fears. I couldn’t begin to list the many sources I have, but if you contact me I can recommend something based on your own description of your circumstances, although I am in no way a trainer or instructor.

    Visualize. Act. Persist

Go ahead and “just do it”. Sometimes just making the smallest step will help get you going enough that the fear of not doing something can go away. An example would be neglecting to write an article such as this one out of fear of failure. Just starting it can create enough momentum to see it through.

Visualize the result, but make the action the goal. There is a subtle difference here for the entrepreneur. Of course you want the result, but maybe that’s not in your direct control. Visualize the result in your mind, but make your goal is the consistent and persistent action of the entrepreneur. Visualization and action will eventually produce the result and you can certainly achieve that goal.

Never, ever quit! I hate to even use that q word. If you do quit, you cease to be an entrepreneur! Not quitting ensures that you’re not beaten, you are moving ahead!

  • Can Any Regular Joe Or Jane Be A Home Business Entrepreneur?

First, my apologies to all regular Joes/Janes who may find the use of the name offensive. That having been said, let’s get back to the question posed. Can any Regular Joe Or Jane be a home business entrepreneur? I realize you may have a different opinion than mine about this subject; but let me first say that just like a candle lights up a room, this article was written with the intention of shedding a few rays of light on the subject of home business entrepreneurship.

So my answer is “YES” every one can be a home business entrepreneur. It does not matter where you are from or your level of education. Any average guy Or gal can start his/her home business and be an entrepreneur as a result. BUT, not every regular Joe Or Jane will maintain and grow an entrepreneurial home business. This is where many people fail.

What do you need in order to be asuccessful home business entrepreneur by maintinaing your business? You will need to have qualities for home business oriented people. Below are some of these qualities that will help you to maintain, grow and succeed in your entrepreneurial home business:

1-Home business entrepreneurs are careful about money. They always know how much money they have. They know the value and cost of things so they can recognize a real bargain when they see one. That is why they can maintain their home business.

2-Most home business entrepreneurs earned money when they were teenagers whether they were babysitting, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, sacking groceries etc., they got their patience from those experiences that will help them grow their home business.

3- home business entrepreneurs are competitive by nature. Many were active in sports and other competitions in high school and college. Others were competitive in wanting to make good grades, earn the respect of their parents and teachers and achieve their goals. This quality is very important in a home business entrepreneur.

4- Home business entrepreneurs believe in the old adage, “the early bird gets the worm.” They sleep and eat enough to maintain their energy levels but they don’t usually linger over non-productive tasks. This helps them focus important energy on growing their home business.

5- Successful home business entrepreneurs are risk-takers who trust their instincts and act on them. Taking risks can be small first steps, like placing your first ad in a mail-order publication. Without this quality, you may not even be able to start a home business, let alone growing one and being successful in it.

6-Home business entrepreneurs have a “head for home business. “They are always thinking of new ideas and new ways to make money or improve their home business. They are not afraid to put these ideas to use.

7-Home business entrepreneurs are usually loners rather than joiners. That’s one reason why the home business, mail-order business is so appealing to many entrepreneurs. They prefer a solitary work environment (home business).

8- Successful home business entrepreneurs are usually honorable people. They do business based on a handshake or a promise. They tend to form strong associations with others who share this work ethic.

9- Home business entrepreneurs do set aside time for leisure activities and family. Their principal form of relaxation is their work, but they do realize the importance of downtime and spend time with their family.

10- Home business entrepreneurs don’t retire. They may sell or change their business, thinking they will retire, but they always jump back in with a new project or get a new idea that they just can’t ignore.

11-Successful home business entrepreneurs are professionals. Whether working from their bedroom, the kitchen table or a modern, well-appointed home office, they operate just as they would if they were in an expensive office building in a major city. When they are working, they don’t let outside influences distract them.

In general, successful home business entrepreneurs are people who have high energy; feel self-confident, set long-term goals, and view money and financial security as a measure of accomplishment and piece of mind. They persist in problem solving, risk taking and learning from failures (their own and from others). They take the initiative, accept personal responsibility and use all available resources to achieve their success. Successful home business entrepreneurs compete with themselves and believe that success or failure lies within their personal control or influence.

Well, I hope this article will benefit who ever wants to start a home business. Just keep in mind that anyone can start a home business, but what differentiates between successful home business entrepreneurs and the failures are as outlined above. Take care, be well and be successful in your home business in your new role as a home business entrepreneur, whenever you’re ready to get started!

  • Handling Failure The Successful Entrepreneur Way

There are many differences that separate the winners in business and life from those who are struggling and falling by the wayside. One big difference is how they handle failure. Successful entrepreneurs have a positive mindset around the experience of failure. When they fail, they look at it as a result. In other words, they took “x” steps which produced “y” result. Since “Y” didn’t work, it’s back to the drawing board to change the formula and try again.

Many new business owners don’t make it out of the gate because as soon as they fail, they figure, “Who am I kidding? I knew it wouldn’t work” and then quit. In other words, they were unable to convert stumbling blocks into stepping stones which inevitably lead to failure. If everyone had that mindset, we wouldn’t have electricity, airplanes, vaccines … actually, we’d have pretty much nothing.

Every single success in this world was preceded by one, two — a thousand failures! Babe Ruth set a record for the most home runs. Did you know he also had the record for the most strikeouts? Thomas Edison failed more than a thousand times before he perfected the light bulb.

If you’re not failing, you’re not pushing yourself enough. You are remaining in your comfort zone and cannot expect to reach the level of success you’re capable of. Failure is what allows you to learn and grow. If you quit as soon as you meet with failure, you will always remain exactly where you are.

Albert Einstein once said, “You cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it.” And, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” What these statements teach is, in order to overcome failure, you must think differently and act differently. It is what separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.

You might have to seek out guidance from someone else who can offer the expertise you need. You may need to inject new perspectives and talent by forming a team around your project, but fear of failure is one of the biggest obstacles that hold new business owners back. Failure should not be feared, but embraced because a life lived in fear is a life half lived.

If you’re stuck and unable to move forward because of fear of failure or because you have failed in your previous attempt, bring someone else into the mix to offer support and guidance. Tweak your plan and give it another go.

Engrave the words of the following masters into your mind and never, EVER give up:

    • Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. – Albert Einstein
    • He who fears being conquered is sure of defeat. – Napoleon I
    • Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines. – Robert Schuller

  • Defining Success Of The Home Business Entrepreneur

    Confidence

Studies have shown that successful entrepreneurs and home business owners possess certain characteristics, the most important of which might be confidence in themselves or, simply, self confidence.

So the question many would-be entrepreneurs may have to ask themselves is, do I have self-confidence? This kind of self-confidence refers to the magical power of having confidence in yourself and in your strengths and abilities. We’re not talking about bravado or blind and reckless daring, but an unshakeable belief in yourself.

    Achievement oriented

Results are gained by focused and sustained effort so if you, as an aspiring entrepreneur, concentrate on achieving a specific goal and not just accomplishing a string of unrelated tasks then you probably have an above average chance of achieving success. But here is another question you may have to contemplate during your planning. Are you a risk taker?

There is a chance of loss inherent in pursuing any goal, yet you have the confidence necessary to take calculated risks to achieve your goals. So which of these three main characteristics is the most important? Believe it or not, it is self-confidence.

Without self-confidence, nothing else is possible. If you don’t believe in your abilities, then the first challenge that arises may knock you off the path to achieving your goals. Here are a few things to keep in mind for maintaining a higher level of self-confidence.

    Positive thinking

It all starts with a positive attitude! Believing that something good will happen is the first step. Negative thinking is just not allowed (so stop it right now). You must truly believe that there are no circumstances hard enough to deter you from reaching your goals.

Try the exercise created by Og Mandino, author of The Greatest Salesman In The World – every morning for 30 days repeat the reading of one chapter of your favorite motivational book. If you don’t have one go out and buy The Greatest Salesman In The World. It’ll run you about $3.50 at Amazon.com. You might be surprised at the results this simple exercise will produce!

Remember too, that positive thinking can be contagious. When positive thinking spreads, it can open doors to new ideas, customers, friends, etc.

    Persistent action

All the positive thinking and believing in the world is useless if it is not applied towards a goal. You have to take action, no excuses allowed. This action must also be persistent. Trying once and then giving up is not going to be enough. Keep at it one step at a time. If you can’t get by a certain step, then find a creative way to try again or go around it.

Entrepreneurs are people who make decisions, they take action and control their own destinies. They are often motivated by a spirit of independence which leads them to believe that their success depends on raw effort and hard work, not luck.

As Ronald Regan pointed out: Entrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all the economic growth in the United States.

Look ahead and see yourself where you want to be, maintain a strong belief in yourself and your skills, stick with it, and never give up. If you can do that, you’re already half way there!

We’ll leave you with a couple of quotes from Sir Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965):
“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”
“For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use being anything else.”
