  • Selection and Proper Use of Free Blogging Software

    Free blogging software platforms

There is plenty of free blogging software available on the Web, including WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr and Medium which are positioned atop a list of the fifteen best platforms. These blogging platforms and many others, have been propelled to their respective positions atop the popularity list because there are simple to use by design. But given such simplicity of use, some users – especially newcomers to the blogging community – who have not spent enough time learning the features and functionality of blogging software in general, can still feel overwhelmed when they attempt to use it.

That having been said, if you are among that group of individuals who feel comfortable expressing themselves in another medium, it may well prove to be worth your time and effort to software, even though the task will not be easy. The important thing to understand about learning to use free blogging software is, it must be approached in a step by step, methodical way, instead of trying to absorb all the features at one time. One way to simplify the learning process is to avoid loading up your blog with all the free accessories you can find, since doing so will be a time consuming distraction.

    Blogging software features

Features like, a visitor counter, flashy background, exciting new font(s), and a cluster of other quirky animated gifts can certainly wait until you have a better grasp of basic features like standard fonts, paragraph formatting, number of columns, layout, admin panel features and comments mediation, among many others. In other words, the recommended way in which a from free blogging tools is to be discriminatory in his/her selection. The main thing that will help a user find success as s/he learns the new kind of blogging software is to take things slowly, as stated earlier.

Unfortunately, some folks get so excited about learning to blog that they rush into the thick of it and start exploring the most complicated features of a program right away, which invariably gets them into trouble and cause some of them to lose confidence which often results in them quitting before they can even get to stage two of the learning process. Taking your time to learn the basic functions of any blogging software before undertaking more advanced techniques, is likely to help you retain what you have learned, as well as to instill confidence and a positive sense about your ability to .

    Approach blogging software with discretion

What might also be an excellent idea is to learn about different kinds of free blogging tools that are available so that you can make an informed decision about what to add to your blog; but keep in mind that simply because you can have something doesn’t mean that you need to get it. It may be more important to practice restraint by selecting only those options that you think will be useful – if not valuable – to you in .

A good example of such discretion is determining how many visitors read your blog, in the sense that if you can check your traffic stats without installing a visitor counter, which is likely to add unnecessary clutter, then by all means do so. Another example is the enormous distraction a flashy background will cause, and limited benefit it would provide, if installed on a text-based blog. And remember that even a blog tool that doesn’t cost you any money may not be an asset in the long run; so be realistic about assessing, and select the kinds of blog accessories that will help you crystallize your vision and .

  • The Vital Elements of Affiliate Marketing

The fact of the matter is…

There is an aspect of affiliate marketing that many seasoned affiliates – those who are struggling and some who have found success in varying degrees – are hesitant to discuss due to a perception that disclosure would make it more difficult to attract newcomers (newbies) to the business. This particular aspect is the cold hard fact that over 90%, but less than 95% of affiliates will actually make less than $100 a month; and those who exceed earnings of $100 a month, but haven’t reached the pinnacle of success, probably comprise another 8% to 9% of the affiliate workforce, leaving only one to two percent at the elite status of super affiliate marketers.

It is therefore important for any aspiring or newbie affiliate marketer to understand that s/he should not count on making a full time income unless and until s/he is able to acquire the tools, resources, online marketing skills and relationships necessary to launch the type of affiliate marketing business that will be sustainable for the first few years, and could eventually generate revenue on a consistent enough basis considered enough to meet the high bar of success as it pertains to the affiliate marketing business.

    Basic elements and traffic flow

The basic elements required for kicking off an affiliate marketing career are:

    • A good web site that converts!
    • Adequate search engine optimization (SEO)!
    • Interesting if not compelling content!
    • Website visitors, or traffic in AM jargon!
    • Supporters: returning visitors who like you (via your site)!
    • Reputable and reliable merchants
    • Great products to promote!

The one thing an affiliate marketer must have in order to succeed is a constant flow of traffic from which s/he could establish relationships which will produce the base of followers/supporters some of whom, with minimum prodding or coersion, will purchase products via the affiliate’s website. However, this traffic-to-relationship-to-buyer conversion is a lot easier said than done, which is one of the reasons that over 90% of affiliates make $100 or less a month. Consider this ratio for a moment: 1:200 is the number of visitors who will buy products via a typical affiliate’s website!

So unless the affiliate is promoting high-end luxury products with big price tags (cars, yachts, jewelry, real estate, etc.), s/he will need a substantial traffic flow on a daily basis, and that’s where adequate SEO can be instrumental in getting that affiliate’s website listed in the search engines (preferrably on the first page) so more people will be able to find it. That having been said there is a misconception about affiliate marketing that oo many people buy into, and when they learn the truth about how they should actually do affiliate marketing it is often too late.

    Dispelling the misconception

But contrary to popular opinion – or misconception – affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick type of program; and success is not achieved by placing a few product links and banner on a website (poorly optimized or not) and then money will start rolling in; and those who hold this belief should not be surprised if they never make a single sale or any money at all. There is a lot of time, work and creativity involved in developing and nurturing a successful affiliate marketing business, some of which have alreay been mentioned above; and even when the time and work have been put in, there is still more to be done.

Understand also – if you are that aspiring affiliate marketer – that there are no guarantees of success, or even that you will ever make your first $100 or how long it will take you make; because, as with every other affiliate marketer, how much money you make depends solely on how much time, effort and money you are willing to put in. If you are a quick learner and really good at affiliate marketing, you could make 2,000 in 2 years; and this is based entirely on whether or not you’re starting from 0 with another full time job that prevents you from devoting a lot of time to your affiliate marketing program.

In view of everything already said on this page, if you decide to give affiliate marketing a try, you would be doing so with the realization that it is not an easy business; but you should also know that the toughest part are the challenges you will be confronted with in the first five to six months; and if you check your stats and see that you are only making a few dollars, you might find yourself wondering if all the hard work was worth it; but the important thing to remember is to stay committed with your hard work, and the commissions should start growing as you keep working.

    Practical expectations, realistic results

One of the biggest factors in affiliate marketing is the traffic that goes through your website; because even though you’ll get a lot of traffic passing through your website, only a fraction of the traffic will be buyers. The key however, is knowing your visitors and then being able to determine which affiliate programs you can offer to meet their needs. There is also the concept of pre-sale, which is the ability to put your visitors in the required mindset for them to actually click on one or more of your prduct links.

By sticking with affiliate marketing, you’ll learn more and more over the years; but you shouldn’t expect to be the best when you first start out, it will take a lot of hard work and dedication. Just keep in mind that by putting the time and effort into your programs, and building the necessary relationships and base of supporters, you’ll be well on your way to making it in the very profitable and exciting world of affiliate marketing, even if you have to endure a few years of growing pains before seeing measurable and/or acceptable results. Good luck!

  • Practical Steps to Affiliate Marketing Success

    Establishing an affiliate business

There are literally hundreds of thousands of affiliate programs available in this eCommerce marketplace, and they all claim to be the best, while many of them try to create the impression that all an individual has to do in order to make money on the Web is use their links and banners, and then wait for the money to start rolling in. That is obviously not the way affiliate marketers begin to make money; although money can, and often does, start rolling in once the groundwork is laid and fundamental steps are taken by new affiliates; so the impression is primarily a false one.

That having been said, an affiliate marketing career can only be successful if the affiliate is ready, willing and able to commit significant time, energy and resources (financial and otherwise) to building the necessary relationships and “following” that s/he can convert into return visitors, referrals and buying customers (traffic) that is the cornerstone of an affiliate marketer’s business. Establishing this cornerstone is not accomplished overnight, and is not made possible by simply placing banners/links on a website and then wait, although links and banners are part of the overall affiliate marketing scenario.

    First things first

Individuals who aspire to be affiliate marketers must first determine what kind of merchants (companies that own products which affiliates market and sell) they want to work with from a product-to-website compatibility standpoint; and they must also do the necessary research on a company’s credibility, reputation and commission payout history. Once these two steps have been completed, first-time affiliates can then start thinking about links, banners, buttons, badges and such as well as how they fit in with the design and theme of their websites.

    Choosing banners

With most affiliate programs, affiliates are offered a variety of banners to display on their websites; but very few of them will be effective if those banners are not compatible with a site’s content, or if their placement takes away from the sites appeal. The problems with most banners are their size in the sense that if a banner that is overly large (in pixels and kilobytes or kb), it will take a long time to implement (render) and use. Therefore, it is recommended that affiliates use banners that are no more than 15kb in size.

When you, as an affiliate, select any kind of graphical advertising, you should try and keep the theme of your website in mind; because even though graphical ads are meant to stand out and catch the eye of website visitors, they should not be so overbearing that everything else on the page is completely ignored. On the contrary, banners should be placed on website in a way that their presence is complimentary to the site’s design, format and content.

Pop-ups, pop-unders and text link ads

Many eCommerce companies that takes on the role of affiliate merchants now give their affiliates the opportunity to use pop up or pop under ads which, according to popular opinion, are not the way to go; because these types of ads have been known to annoy visitors, and therefore are normally closed before they even have the chance to load. However, if you must use one or the other of these ads, you should opt for pop-unders which only display once per visit, and usually after the visitor finishes his/her visit.

One of the most successful and popular methods of advertising among affiliates is text link ads, because they are easy on bandwidth; they don’t use a lot of space; and they can easily be implemented into most types of page layouts. Good text links provide some information as to why your visitor should investigate some of the offers being made from your website.

    Email advertising

The direct promotion via email has really taken off over the last several years, although it has brought tons of spam with it, and was almost entirely responsible for the now famous Can-Spam Act of 2003; so if you plan to use email as a major part of your advertising campaign in promoting your affiliate products, make sure to stand behind what you sell, and make yourself available to answer any questions.

Keep in mind also that many email service providers, including Hotmail (by Microsoft), Yahoo! and Comcast, among others, have installed spam blockers and other software to prevent your marketing emails from getting through to their intended recipient.

    Patience

If you feel confident that your website can generate great sales for certain companyies, you should contact them to negotiate an arrangement; but if they don’t seem too enthused to begin with, you should remain patient as companies are approaced every day with affiliates looking to make better deals. The reality remains that most affiliates can’t deliver what they promise, and companies are aware of this fact.

You should always keep in mind that most forms of advertising will take time no matter what methods you plan to use, so devote some time and a lot of thought before you make any type of decision. Although something might not happen overnight, it doesn’t mean that it won’t happen because some things take more time to develop than others; and if you want to get the best out of your efforts, time and resources devoted to an affiliate marketing career, you’d probably be better off if you take your time and get it done the right way, whether it takes a few days or even weeks.

  • Being an Affiliate Marketer: Profitable?!

Affiliate marketing has become one of the most effective ways to advertise online, and is considered one of the easiest ways for any individual with a website to make money online. Affiliate Marketing is essentially an agreement between a product owner/service provider (merchant) and a website owner or publisher (affiliate), pursuant to which the website owner/affiliate allows the use of his/her site for the promotion of a merchant’s products/services (‘products’) via links that lead to the merchant’s website.

In exchange for such promotion and direct linking the merchant will make payment in the form of a commission to a particular affiliate for each purchase made to customers referred as a result of such promotion and direct linking. Every time someone clicks on a link on the affiliate website and proceeds to make a purchase, the affiliate gets paid a commission; but the merchant will pay an affiliate only when a customer clicks on the product link and makes a purchase.

Affiliate marketing programs are seen as win-win situations for both the merchant and affiliate marketer because of a pay-for-performance methodology that is understood, agreed to and utlilized by both parties who, as a result, enjoy immense benefits from this affiliate marketing structure. Affiliate marketing provides many benefits to the merchant’s side in the sense that it gives the merchant a wider market in which to advertise his/her product or service.

This marketing method provides a product or service the maximum exposure which it may not get with other traditional advertising techniques. The more affiliate sites a merchant can attract to promote his/her products, the more exposure of, and traffic to, product pages s/he can expect to achieve and convert to sales. Affiliate marketing is the equivalent of having an army of sales people who will advertise and promote products while only getting paid if the activity results in purchase(s).

Meanwhile, since a win-win situation is beneficial to both parties, the affiliate also enjoys many benefits. Foremost among such benefits is that affiliate marketing provides an easy way to earn money online via a method that is twofold. First and most important, an affiliate must have the ability to attract visitors to his/her website by providing interesting (if not compelling) and relevant content.

Second, that affiliate must be able to balance promotional links and banners in as proportionate a manner to the other site content as s/he can, in a manner that encourages those visitors to become readers who are interested in that affiliate’s viewpoints and, therefore in any products s/he may be recommending via those links and banners and lead directly to the merchant’s website. Once those readers have been converted to (prospective customers) through the affiliate’s efforts, they will hopefully click through and proceed to make a purchase.

As soon as the customer clicks on the ad on the affiliate’s site, is redirected to the merchant’s website and goes on to buy that particular product, the affiliate earns a commission. The more referrals there are the more profit for the affiliate. Affiliate marketing is an ideal way to earn money from home since there are virtually no production costs and the product is already developed and proven by the merchant; all you have to do as an affiliate marketer to find as many prospects as you can that will bring in the profit for both the merchant and you, the affiliate.

Affiliate programs are usually free to join so affiliates do not have to worry about start-up costs. And there are thousands of products and services you can choose from, because there are probably affiliate programs for every product under the sun. With this in mind website owners who are interested in earning money from their websites might be pleased to know that there is likely a product or service out there that is relevant to their website.

In addition, there is absolutely no sales experience necessary since most affiliate programs offer excellent support when it comes to providing marketing material; and the simplicity of affiliate marketing allows an individual to be an affiliate marketer at the least cost and the most comfort. So if affiliate marketing interests you, not only would it represent some extra money in your pockets, you may even be able to build a successful affiliate marketing business right in the convenience of your own home.

In affiliate marketing, the marketer’s responsibility is simply to find prospects for one or more merchants without having to worry about inventory, order processing, product shipping, or any other of those administration responsibilities that accompany product ownership. These, along with customer service support are the duties of the merchant.

Because of the global reach enjoyed by Internet participants, an affiliate marketer can easily find thousands of prospects and while intensify his/her advertising campaign by exploiting more aggressive and productive strategies such as viral marketing; and by attracting more prospects, the marketer can also maximize his/her potential to earn. Another benefit of an affiliate marketer is the minimal risk involved, in the sense that if the product s/he advertising is not making money, then s/he can dump it and choose another. There are no long-term binding contracts tying an affiliate marketer to products that are not making enough money.

A primary business tool on hold

All the same, putting yourself in the place of an affiliate marketer, benefits you will derive are the opportunity to increase your income and making a substantial profit, even if affiliate marketing is only a sideline business. With your own affiliate business you can easily earn extra income, although you do have to exert effort and use your imagination to maximize your earning potential. Indeed, affiliate marketing has been, and still is, one of the simplest and most effective business opportunities on the Web.

  • A Few Rules and Practical Tips for New Entrepreneurs

    Entrepreneurial

It’s a great time to be an entrepreneur–in the last decade, technology has leveled the playing field and propelled an entrepreneurial revolution. As an entrepreneur, you now have more access to information that enables you to make more intelligent choices more quickly. You have an advantage over big businesses in that you’re lighter, more flexible, and faster on your feet. You can target new markets more quickly, and you can turn on a dime.

But being a successful entrepreneur requires that you look at the big picture and follow a plan through from beginning to end. Rieva Lesonsky, editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur Magazine gives some practical guidelines that can help you when beginning your own enterprise:

    First and foremost

Don’t Quit Your Day Job. Consider starting your business part-time, especially if it’s online, while you’re working and have a steady income. It usually takes six months to a year to get a business going and you don’t want your ability to make your house payment to hinge upon your company being an overnight success. Start with what you can manage, financially and time-wise, and scale up as your business grows.

    Second

Find Your Niche. The days of general stores are over. Particularly online, consumers are looking for stores that specialize. You have to find a need–something a specific group of people want, but can’t get at the big chain stores–and fill it. Advises Lesonsky, “You can’t compete with the big guys, so you have to find where the big guys aren’t and go into your niches.

    Third

Have an Online Presence. Even if you’re not planning to start an online retail business, consider that the internet can still play a valuable role in your company. Having an online presence eliminates the limitations of physical location and broadens your customer base by, literally, millions. It’s also a great tool for promoting yourself and letting people, even in your own area, know that you’re there, and what you’re doing.

    Fourth

Refuse to Quit. Successful entrepreneurship requires creativity, energy, and a drive to keep going when you fail. Few people realize that before Bill Gates created the extremely successful Microsoft 3.0, he created a Microsoft 1.0 and 2.0, both of which flopped–but he kept at it. And that determination and refusal to give up is what will separate successful entrepreneurs from unsuccessful ones. Says Lesonsky, “Arm yourself with optimism to get beyond the ‘No’ or the trouble. There’s nothing wrong in failure–just don’t repeat the same mistake!”

  • Following Up on All Job Contacts

If you are still in the job search process, it is extremely important to follow up on all contacts. It is just not good to just sit and wait for results to come pouring in when you think that you’ve already done your part, simply because your contact information has been distributed.

Consider two applicants applying for a prime position at a company. After the interview, the first applicant just sits around waiting to hear from his prospective employer. However, the second applicant distributes his contact information to some people whom he met in the company. Furthermore, applicant number two does a follow-up on the results of the job interview a few days later.

The first applicant has not been heard from, because he just relies on the routine “we’ll call you” response he got from the interviewer. Which of these applicants do you think will have greater success of getting the job? Even though the first applicant is more qualified, his failure to follow up, or even send a thank you note to the interviewer, contributed to him/her not getting the job.

If you are still waiting for that job offer and you do not follow up with your contacts, your chances of getting hired will become slimmer. In the business world, following up with all of your contacts is a sure-fire way to spread the word about yourself and your business acumen, thereby expanding your horizons. So if you are still looking for a job, we’ve put together a number of tips about the follow-up process. Hope they’ll be of some help to you.

The thank-you note – Send a thank you note right after the interview, ideally within a couple of days. This is a way of getting the prospective employer to hear from you again. Should you not get hired for the current position being offered, someone from that company will likely keep your information on file for future consideration.

Your complete contact info – Make sure that you leave your mobile and landline numbers, your most reliable e-mail address, as well as home address so that prospective employers will have no excuse for not getting in touch with you.

Accurate employer info – Be sure to get the most accurate contact information of perspective employers. In return, when you place their information on any letter that you send out (i.e. resumes, thank you notes, etc.) you will avoid typographical errors while making sure that you have the correct spelling their names, and that everything else is in order.

References alert – Since some companies actually do take a look at your character references you must alert the people on you listed as references to the fact that they might receive a call from your prospective employers. This way they would not be caught off-guard and say something that could be embarrassing to them and ruin your chances of getting the job.

A positive attitude – Always maintain a positive (if not cheerful) attitude. Should you not get hired for a particular position, you may ask the people from that company for referrals to other companies or at least to keep you in mind for future hiring. This could be of immense help to you in ways that may not be readily apparent.

Even if you are not job hunting, but are currently in business – whether you are just starting out or in the midst of expanding – you also need to make sure to follow up on all important contacts. For example, you could go to a corporate event and have distribute a lot of business cards; but don’t stop there.

These people might eventually bring big business to your company so it is important to build up a strong business relationship with them.

Here are some tips on following up on your contacts if you are already in business:

The thank you note – This rule does not only apply to people applying for a job. This is much more helpful for those who are already in business, as a simple thank-you note would remind customers of which company they are dealing with and your brand name will be imprinted on their minds. This practice should bring more business your way.

Follow-up messages – Send follow up messages. If you are in sales, it is good to follow up on existing buyers who are most likely to purchase your products again.

    Fashion world descends upon us

Personalized correspondence – You might also want to personalize any correspondence that you send out as this leaves the customers feeling as if they know you personally. This should lead you to earning their trust, which in turn leaves the customer feeling secure that you are handling whatever business it is that they throw your way in an efficient manner.

Prompt action – Make sure that you follow up swiftly and promptly. The rule of thumb is to reply fast, fast, fast. Whether it is a solution to a problem or sending out an order or replying to a letter, responding quickly to a customer’s request or inquiry is the easiest way for them to think of you and your company in a positive way.
